Andrew Cheng, M.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Andrew Cheng has served as President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Avere Therapeutics since 2026. He previously served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Akero Therapeutics, Inc. (Nasdaq: AKRO) from 2018 until its acquisition by Novo Nordisk in December 2025, where he also served on the board of directors. Prior to Akero, Dr. Cheng spent nearly two decades at Gilead Sciences, Inc., including as Senior Vice President from 2009 to 2015, Executive Vice President from 2015 to 2018, and Chief Medical Officer in 2018. Dr. Cheng has served on the board of directors of Vera Therapeutics, Inc. (Nasdaq: VERA) since 2017, where he chairs the nominating and corporate governance committee. Dr. Cheng received his M.D. and Ph.D. from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and completed his internal medicine residency at the University of California, Los Angeles.
